About 21st CCLCs

Through Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLCs), Milwaukee Recreation provides expanded academic enrichment opportunities during out-of-school time to support in-school educational efforts.

21st century CLC logoIn partnership with local youth-serving and neighborhood agencies, 21st CCLCs increase student achievement and learning by offering engaging academic enrichment activities. Our 21st CCLCs are also safe, fun places for youth to learn and play throughout the year. The program provides positive out-of-school alternatives and serves as a safe haven during the school year and summer months.

Milwaukee Recreation's 21st CCLCs offer educational, recreational, and social activities for youth and adults, including:

  • Youth Development Activities
  • College and Career Readiness
  • Social and Emotional Learning
  • Technology Education
  • Art
  • Music
  • Recreation Activities
  • Family Engagement Activities

MPS 21st CCLC programs are funded by Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) federal grant funds through a grant agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. 21st CCLC grants are funded by the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended by No Child Left Behind, Title IV, Part B.

Registration

Registration forms are available on site at the 21st CCLC location and must be submitted to the 21st CCLC program site coordinator. Additional forms may be required to be submitted as part of the registration process.

21st CCLC programs may charge nominal program fees. However, fees or the inability to pay fees cannot be a barrier to participation. If families cannot pay fees or are unwilling to authorize families for Wisconsin Shares, those students should still be allowed to participate in 21st CCLC programming. Interested families should contact the 21st CCLC program site coordinator for more information.

Partners

Milwaukee Recreation operates dozens of 21st CCLCs and Safe Places alongside other local youth-serving agencies, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, COA Youth and Family Centers, the Silver Spring Neighborhood Center, the Milwaukee Christian Center, Neu-Life Community Development, Journey House, America SCORES, and Neighborhood House.
