After-School Arts & Humanities Opportunities

Milwaukee Recreation is dedicated to providing additional out-of-school-time arts and humanities opportunities for young people and families throughout the city of Milwaukee.

Through a variety of programs, including the Partnership for the Arts & Humanities, the Arts Internship Program, and the Creative Allies Program, we are increasing access to the arts and humanities for the next generation. These programs expand the resources and support available for arts and humanities education, and build the collective capacity of community-based partners to effectively serve children, youth, and families.

Arts Internship Program

Milwaukee Recreation's award-winning Arts Internship Program is a paid summer internship program that provides high school students with practical job experience in arts-related positions. Interns explore the arts in an in-depth and applicable way while also gaining 21st-century job skills.

Creative Allies Partnership

Creative Allies

The Creative Allies program, a partnership between Milwaukee Recreation and the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, supports after-school sites within MPS by providing additional arts opportunities. MIAD students or graduates selected for the program are paired with an after-school site and are tasked with collaborating with site staff to create an arts program that aligns with site-specific needs and student interests, strongly emphasizing youth voice.

Grace Weber's Music Lab with Partnership for the Arts & Humanities Participant

Partnership for the Arts & Humanities

The Partnership for the Arts and Humanities is an allocation of $1.83 million dollars approved annually by the Milwaukee Board of School Directors to support after-school and summer arts and humanities-related opportunities for children, youth, and families. This program strengthens existing and establishes new community partnerships that motivate students to higher levels of achievement through creative academic/cognitive, social emotional, and physical/skill based learning.
