Dear Therapeutic Recreation Families and Employees,
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the cancellation of Therapeutic Recreation programs for the Winter 2020-21 season. It took great consideration to make this decision, but based on the hands-on nature of the Therapeutic Rec. programs, recommended physical distancing requirements, and the recommended stages of returning to "normal" programming, we know this is safest choice to make for our participants and employees. This is not a decision we took lightly and we hope by doing our part now, we will be ready and able to safely return to our programming.
Please take care of yourselves and have a safe winter. We will miss you all dearly and cannot wait until we can be reunited at future Therapeutic Rec. programs.
Therapeutic Recreation's virtual program continues this winter! You can join our Therapeutic Recreation Facebook group page to see all of our virtual programming!
All classes are free; no registration is required!
Remember: You can also view archived TR classes on YouTube here.
Our Mission: To improve the quality of life for children, youth, and adults with disabilities, and their families, through recreational and educational experiences.
Milwaukee Recreation's Therapeutic Recreation program offers activities specifically for individuals with disabilities ages three and up. Classes are offered throughout the year at various locations in the city of Milwaukee. Participants are given the opportunity to recreate in a wide variety of activities with outstanding staff members to guide them to success.
Adaptations are made to facilitate active participation of all participants. In addition to quality programming, participants have constant opportunities to socialize and build life long friendships. Beyond just fun and games, recreation participation brings opportunities for physical fitness, increased self-confidence, cooperation, and positive use of leisure time.
All programs are lead by trained staff/leaders and have a 1 to 4 staff/participant ratio. Agencies and group homes enrolling four or more participants must provide support staff to assist the Recreation staff during the program.
Choose from a wide variety of classes, including yoga, computers, field trips, cultural events, family activities, dances and instruction, swim instruction, personal training, cooking, scrapbooking, bowling and more.
Try something new or return for more excitement each season!
The Therapeutic Recreation Programs for Individuals with Disabilities are looking for energetic individuals who are interested in working with people with disabilities and their families.
Summer and school-year employment available for individuals at least 18 years of age (some positions available for minors).
