Special Olympics

Special OlympicsTeam Milwaukee (Agency 8-42)

Special Olympics Wisconsin, Inc. (SOWI) was created, and exists today, to give individuals (8+ years old) with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to train and compete in year-round sports activities.

Team Milwaukee Special Olympics is a registered agency under SOWI and is a community-based athletic program for individuals with an intellectual disability within Milwaukee County. We offer athletes the opportunity to learn, train and compete in 12 sports throughout the year. Practices for these sports are hosted one evening a week with tournaments on the weekends (typically 2-4 tournaments per sport).

Fall Sports Season (August – November)

  • Bowling
  • Volleyball
  • Strength Training

Winter Sports Season (December - April)

  • Basketball
  • Competitive Swim

Spring Sports Season (March - June)

  • Cornhole
  • Soccer
  • Strength Training
  • Track & Field

Summer Sports Season (May - August)

  • Softball
  • T-Ball
  • Flag Football
  • Bocce Ball

In order to participate with SOWI and Team Milwaukee Special Olympics, all athletes must have a valid medical and required release forms on file. You can find a copy of these documents under the “More Information” tab found on the top-right hand corner of this page.

  How to Join Team Milwaukee Special Olympics

To join Team Milwaukee Special Olympics, a potential athlete must have an intellectual disability and have a valid medical and required release forms on file.

  Volunteer Opportunities

Team Milwaukee Special Olympics is always looking for volunteers to assist with our athletes and tournaments!

Coaching – We are looking for individuals that are interested in changing the lives of our athletes by teaching the fundamentals of sports and teamwork. Even if you know very little about a sport, Team Milwaukee will provide you with all of the necessary tools to help guide athletes of all levels through various drills to improve their skills and grow as a team! All you need is a positive attitude and a desire to encourage others!

One Day Events – We provide a variety of athletic competitions throughout the year and can always use a helping hand. Volunteers will assist with various duties – including score keeping, timing, or assisting with concessions – and encouraging athletes throughout the competition!
