Inclusion Services Policy

Inclusion Services Policy

Milwaukee Recreation defines equity as the fair and just distribution of department resources, services, and opportunities across all facilities and programs available to the community.

Milwaukee Recreation aims to ensure universal access to quality playfields and recreation services for all community members. This includes individuals with physical or cognitive disabilities, the LGBTQ community, and racial and ethnic groups - including refugees and immigrants, regardless of their age, ethnic origin, socioeconomic level, race, language, sexual orientation, gender identification, ability, or location.

We strive to:

  • Continuously maintain equitable and inclusive environments in person and across all digital platforms, ensuring authentic and meaningful engagement for all program participants.
  • Stay relevant with current best practices related to equity and inclusion, ensuring appropriate interactions and access.
  • Utilize equitable and inclusive lenses when considering expansions or development of our programming and to support decision-making and strategies across the department.

Milwaukee Recreation will continue to advance equity and inclusion by:

  • Offering reasonable program adaptations and accommodations, based on the individual needs and abilities of participants. See Accommodations Request Form.
  • Analyzing the impact and/or outcomes of activities, programs, facilities, policies, and procedures to ensure that they are equitable and inclusive.
  • Partnering with community organizations, in alignment with Milwaukee Public Schools, to strengthen connections within the neighborhoods served.
  • Delivering ongoing professional development focused on equity and inclusion for full- and part-time staff.

How to Request Accommodations for Recreation Classes

If a reasonable accommodation is needed for a participant to fully enjoy a recreation class, submit an ADA Accommodation Request by clicking this link: ADA Accommodation Request / Inclusion Complaint Form. If registering in person, please indicate that an accommodation is needed to the Recreation team member processing your registration.

Once your request is received, you will be contacted by a member of the Recreation team to discuss the specific accommodation needs prior to the start of the class.

Milwaukee Recreation needs two weeks to process accommodation requests.
