Get ready to swing into summer fun on the playground!
This summer, Milwaukee Recreation will continue to provide young people across the city with safe programming for all ages and abilities. Every activity is carefully designed to provide youth with a comfortable environment where they feel free to learn, grow, and play. Whether your child loves sports, music, arts, or spending time outdoors, Milwaukee Recreation offers affordable opportunities to match all of their interests. Spaces are still available for many of our upcoming classes and activities.
Throughout the summer, Milwaukee Recreation offers community members across the city with safe and inclusive enrichment activities through our summer playgrounds program. Starting June 23, playground staff will be on site to lead group activities, supervise play opportunities, and distribute free meals. While this program does not serve as a substitute for child care or similar attendance-driven programs, participants can expect an exciting array of safe activities, including water play, field trips, and roving playground activities!
In addition to our summer playgrounds, Milwaukee Recreation’s Twilight Centers will also remain open through Aug. 8. At each of our Twilight Centers, we provide young people ages 10-18 with free evening programs, including board games, esports, open gym shootaround, field trips, college and career conversations, and more. We know just how integral our Twilight Centers are to providing youth across the city with fun and safe places to go during the evenings, which is why each of our locations remain open during the summer months to MPS and non-MPS students alike.
Parents searching for affordable child care options can also look to Milwaukee Recreation’s summer Camps, Community Learning Centers, and Safe Places. Starting June 23, each of our sites will offer varying types of academic, cultural, and recreational support for youth in grades K3-12. Our before- & after-school programs aim to further your child's academic and social development, while also providing families with additional support during the summer.
For full-day enrichment and group activities for individuals with disabilities ages 3-21, parents can look no further than Milwaukee Recreation’s Club Rec. programming! Every weekday during the summer months (Monday-Friday), Milwaukee Recreation offers fun and engaging activities including art, special events, physical education, and cooking. All Club Rec activities are designed to support your child’s education, community skills, and recreational needs.
In addition to the programs listed above, Milwaukee Recreation offers a variety of low-cost activities for youth and teens. From learn-to-swim classes to youth sports clinics to outdoor education opportunities, there’s a class for every need and interest this summer! Each class provides youth with a supervised, safe, and inclusive environment where they feel safe to socialize and grow alongside their peers. Visit the link above to explore all of our youth programs offered this summer.
Special Events
Every summer, Milwaukee Recreation offers special events, camps, and programs for youth looking to sharpen their skills and explore new interests! For the third year in a row, Milwaukee Recreation is hosting the Cycling Celebration, a special event for young people interested in all things cycling. Participants from grades 6-12 are invited to join us at Beulah Brinton Community Center for a series of cycling sessions with coaches and instructors, before riding through the streets of Bay View on the closed course for the Kwik Trip Tour of America’s Dairyland.
Milwaukee’s future football stars can also look forward to our annual Gilbert Brown Foundation All-Pro Football Camp. This camp, led by former Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Gilbert Brown, will help take your child's game to the next level. Participants will also work alongside qualified coaches as they build on their existing football foundation and knowledge base. All skill levels are welcome for this FREE three-day camp!
We can’t wait to see the Milwaukee community come out to our playfields and community centers for another fun-filled summer!
