Andrew Rossa, Milwaukee Recreation’s manager of operations, was awarded the Wisconsin Park and Recreation Association’s "Dr. George Wilson Service Award" in recognition of his outstanding service to the parks and recreation profession and WPRA. The award was presented to Rossa during the WPRA's annual conference in February.
Throughout his career with Milwaukee Recreation, Rossa has demonstrated a strong commitment to public service. Rossa has overseen comprehensive recreation, wellness, and sports programs serving thousands of youth and families; managed multi-million-dollar budgets and facility projects; and helped implement systems that improved operational efficiency, access, and equity. His leadership has consistently enhanced the delivery of recreation services in Milwaukee.
Rossa has also been a dedicated leader within WPRA, serving as recreation section chair; professional development chair; diversity, equity, and inclusion committee member; and conference chair. A certified park and recreation professional (CPRP), Rossa’s career reflects the dedication, integrity, and service embodied by the Dr. George Wilson Service Award.
Wilson, the award’s namesake, was the director of Milwaukee Recreation from 1969-76. He started working for the department in 1937. Rossa is the 28th recipient in the award’s history and the first Milwaukee Recreation employee to receive the honor.
