This June, Milwaukee Recreation is celebrating the completed renovations of two sparkling neighborhood play spaces, Stark Playfield and Carmen Playfield! The public is invited to attend and take part in each ceremony alongside local leaders and Milwaukee Recreation staff.
Like each of Milwaukee Recreation's previous playfield renovations, community feedback was essential to both projects, helping to guide the design process and create a sense of ownership for the surrounding neighborhoods. Milwaukee Recreation led multiple on-site community engagement events and gathered additional input via online surveys.
“We are thrilled to see the completion of these two playfields,” Milwaukee Recreation director Lynn Greb said. “The neighborhood residents provided crucial input to help shape these spaces and we couldn’t be more proud of the end results. These new playfields are stunning, vibrant, and welcoming spaces that children and families will enjoy for years to come.”
Each playfield now features upgraded walking loops, age-appropriate playground equipment, a splash pad, shade structures, and a multi-purpose field. New and upgraded amenities were also added, including lighting, benches, and trash receptacles. Carmen Playfield also includes basketball practice play areas, an Aventus basketball wall, and Tuj Lub courts (Tuj Lub is a popular game within the area). Stark Playfield features updated basketball and tennis court facilities.
With the renovations at Carmen Playfield and Stark Playfield, Milwaukee Recreation has now successfully completed full-site renovations at nine playfields throughout the city of Milwaukee, as well as a tot lot renovation at Ohio Playfield.
Additionally, Wick Playfield and Modrzejewski Playfield are currently under construction, while Emigh Playfield, Lincoln Playfield, Metcalfe Playfield, and Browning Playfield are currently in the design process.
