Milwaukee Recreation's mountain bike team, MKE MTB, put together a strong start to the 2024 season at the Minooka Park race in Waukesha, Wis. on Sept. 13-15.
Tate Endress (pictured here), an eighth grade student from Fernwood Montessori School, finished first among his division of 67 eighth grade boys racers. Endress posted a time of 24:36, nearly a full minute faster than the second-place finisher.
Fifteen racers competed for Milwaukee Recreation's composite team at Minooka Park. See below for all notable finishes, and click here for the full results of the race.
- Michael Wolff, Longfellow School: placed 6th out of 48 racers in the 6th grade boys race.
- Elliot Sargent, Longfellow School: placed 6th out of 71 racers in the 7th grade boys race.
- Astella Scanley, Longfellow School: placed 9th out of 22 racers in the 8th grade girls race.
- Siri Reinbold, Rufus King High School placed 7th out of 10 racers in the JVIII girls race.
- Jose Martinez, Rufus King High School: placed 13th out of 48 racers in the JVII D2 boys race.
As a team, MKE MTB finished 10th among the 39 competing D2 teams.
MKE MTB is a program offered to engage Milwaukee’s youth in mountain biking. Milwaukee Recreation's joint team practices at the Riverside and MacDowell sites, helping middle school and high school students learn the sport and create a positive enviroment with peers and mentors. MKE MTB welcomes riders of all skill levels to try the sport; the team brings expert mountain bikers and rookie racers together.
