After nine schools battled it out on the stage and then again in the voting booths, Fratney Community Learning Center (CLC) has been declared the winner of the 2018 Turn on the Talent show! At the 12th annual edition of the event, Fratney CLC wowed the audience with a tribute to Puerto Rico after the devastating hurricane last fall. You can watch Fratney's performance here.
At the conclusion of online voting on midnight on May 13, 2018, Greenfield CLC and JMAC Twilight Center finished second and third, respectively. Fratney CLC will receive $1,000 to work with a community partner of its choice to design their own after-school arts program. Greenfield CLC will earn $750 for its own arts/cultural workshop or field trip. JMAC Twilight Center will receive $500 to purchase art supplies or equipment to enhance its after-school programming.
Here are the vote totals for the three winners. You can see the final standings here.
- Fratney CLC: 31,631 votes
- Greenfield CLC: 25,730 votes
- JMAC Twilight Center: 10,211 votes
Although the voting process has officially ended, you can still watch all nine performances here. All told, the Milwaukee community racked up over 73,000 votes in support of Milwaukee Public Schools' after-school programming, which was a significant jump from last year's total of 28,000 votes.
Not only were all nine performances exciting to watch, but the voting remained neck-and-neck until the very end. JMAC Twilight Center jumped out to an early lead soon after voting went live, but Fratney CLC made its push after a few days. From there, the two schools jockeyed for position atop the standings until the final weekend, when Fratney skyrocketed to the top of the leaderboard and Greenfield CLC made a surprise ascent into second place.
JMAC Twilight Center, Milwaukee High School of the Arts CLC, and Dr. MLK Jr. Safe Place all earned an extra 50 points from the judge's panel at the event, but only JMAC Twilight Center was able to turn that into a top-three finish.
Congratulations to Fratney CLC, Greenfield CLC, and JMAC Twilight Center, and thank you to everyone who participated in Turn on the Talent this year! We hope to see you again in 2019!
