MILWAUKEE RECREATION PROVIDES
FIELD TRIPS FOR STUDENTS

Educational field trips complement classroom learning

Milwaukee Recreation recently published the 2008-2009 Outdoor Education Field Trip Guide, a resource for teachers and child care providers throughout Southeastern Wisconsin. The booklet is now available by clicking here.

Sometimes, it's not enough to simply read about life on the farm or have a classroom discussion about the solar system. Milwaukee Recreation's educational field trips enable teachers to complement classroom instruction with hands-on experiences.

"Everyone has a memorable story to tell about a favorite class field trip -- it's part of our culture," says MPS Assistant Recreation Supervisor Kevin Reed. "Thankfully, Milwaukee Recreation is able to provide schools with recreational and educational opportunities that focus on Wisconsin's unique heritage and natural environment. These types of activities are especially important for youth who live in an urban setting and rarely get to experience nature. Our programs maximize the learning potential by providing teachers with pre- and post-trip activities."

This year's educational field trips will enable students to experience a nature center with live animals, go cross-country skiing in the winter, see a 200-acre working farm, observe some of the finest examples of glacial topography on the planet, take a hike through diverse habitats, and study the stars.

Teachers and child care providers can download the Outdoor Education Field Trip Guide from this page or call (414) 647-6050 for more information.
